The women of TCC celebrate International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day.  This day – which applauds women’s accomplishments and advocates for gender equality – has been observed since the early part of the 20th century.  This year’s theme is #BalanceforBetter.

Communication is key to achieving the balance that will make for a better world.  It frequently is said that communication is a 50-50 proposition.  If women are to fulfill their personal and professional potential – to fully contribute to society and improve the world – they must be ready, willing and able to take 100 percent control of their half.

Finding the confidence to do this isn’t always easy.  Many factors can mitigate against women standing up and speaking up.  All too often, women block their own path.  They allow the voices of their inner critic – the one who says “You’re not good enough” – to stifle their ambitions and aspirations.  They wait for the perfect time to say the perfect thing in the perfect way and usually end up remaining silent.  They downplay their worth because they don’t wish to be viewed as arrogant or aggressive.

Nearly five years ago, The Communication Center (TCC) created a training course called Confident Communication for Women (CCW).  It’s a work in progress, in many ways.  Nearly 600 women have participated in it, and their input and engagement has enriched the content beyond measure. While they’ve taken away tips and tools to enhance their ability to convey confidence and communicate messages that need to be heard, they’ve given to their sister participants – and the TCC coaches! – as well.

CCW will remain on our curriculum as long as there is a need for it.  But now is the time to build on its foundation – to provide women with more communication tools and a safe space to practice using them.  Thus, TCC is launching Empower Yourself: Confident Communication for Women Part 2.

May International Women’s Day 2019 inspire and energize you.  Let us know what you’re doing to create a better, more balanced world.
